Fantasy Preview – Match Week 9

Plenty to pick up on following the return of the Premier League last weekend after making way for international football briefly. So without further ado, here are my tips for your fantasy teams for this weekend;

BUY

Charlie Austin – Forward, Southampton, 6.5

Austin now has four goals in his last five matches and, what’s remarkable, is that he’s actually doing it with a worse shot accuracy percentage (50%) than his prolific 2014/15 campaign with Queens Park Rangers (67%). Basically, this run of form he’s on is sustainable. Manchester City still have a very good defence but have only managed to keep one clean sheet this season. If Southampton do manage to score, I’m betting it’s Austin.

Jason Puncheon – Midfielder, Crystal Palace, 5.5

Puncheon has been having a statistically sneaky season thus far. He currently leads the league in both key passes and corners taken which, with a big man up front like Christian Benteke, should lead to plenty of goals soon. If Yohan Cabaye can live up to even a little bit of his potential, this Crystal Palace team could really start to click.

Marko Arnautovic – Midfielder, Stoke City, 7.2

Honestly this is a more of a gut feeling more than anything tangible. Now is the perfect time to zig with him while everyone is zagging on Joe Allen. I can understand why people are jumping to the Welshman as Stoke’s match ups are great (no top ten defences in their next five matches) but I find it much more likely that Arnautovic regains last year’s form (11 goals, 6 assists) than Joe Allen breaks out as a legitimate goal threat.

Jose Holebas – Defender, Watford, 4.6

Despite having already scored twice, Holebas is still incredibly low owned at just 2.9%. His next five matches aren’t too shabby either as Watford will face just one top ten attack (Liverpool). Heurelho Gomes has been much worse than he was last season, but a return to form could see this Watford defence improve both drastically and immediately.

Theo Walcott – Midfielder, Arsenal, 7.9

I mentioned him a couple of weeks back and he’s done nothing but continue good performance after good performance. Walcott now has six goals in his last four home games so I definitely like his chances at home against Middlesbrough and their sixteenth ranked defence. The only potential downside here is the fitness of Aaron Ramsey as he could force a timeshare with the English winger.

SELL

Diego Costa – Forward, Chelsea, 10.2

I realise this is a strange call as Costa currently has the most goals scored in the Premier League, I just weirdly still want nothing to do with him. Chelsea will face four of the top five defences over the next five matches and I just am not sure what we will get from this attack over that stretch.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Forward, Manchester United, 11.4

I could find arguments to keep him, as I have the past two weeks, but at this point he’s just not worth the price. There are currently sixteen players with the same amount of goals or more than Ibra and, of that sixteen, only Aguero is more expensive. Could he pop up with a goal in any match? Of course, but so can Jermain Defoe.

Toby Alderweireld – Defender, Tottenham Hotpsur, 6.5

You can either sit him or sell him, point is his injury should keep him out of your lineup this week. Longterm his 6.5 price tag does not seem worth it as he is the most expensive defencive option but only places eighth in scoring. With a run of London derbies in November you should definitely consider downshifting to a more affordable option.

Etienne Capoue – Midfielder, Watford, 5.3

I called it a bit too early, but regression was always coming for Etienne Capoue. Since his hot start Capoue has now failed to lodge a shot on target in his last three matches. If you are deadset on having a mid-upside low priced midfielder look at Joe Allen and Ryan Mason who are both cheaper, lower owned, and have been more effective as of late.

Ben Foster – Goalkeeper, West Bromwich Albion, 4.7

He has failed to earn a clean sheet in any of his last five matches yet is still the fourth highest owned goalkeeper (16.3%). In case you need any more incentive, guess who he faces the next couple of weeks? Oh, just Liverpool and Manchester City.
