Palace have completed the signing of French midfielder Mathieu Flamini in a deal until the end of the 2016/17 season.
The free agent was released by Arsenal in the summer having made well over two hundred appearances for the North London club in two separate spells.
In between his time at the Emirates, the thirty-two year old played in Italy for Serie A gianst with Milan. Born in Marseille, his career began in the youth set up at his home time club. He broke into the first team in 2003 and made just fourteen appearances before joining the Gunners in 2004 under controversial circumstances amid claims that a long term contract had been verbally agreed by the player with Marseille.
Capped three times for France, Flamini takes the last remaining place in the Palace’s Premier League squad to bring the number up to the full compliment of twenty-five and will wear the number four shirt.
Speaking to the official Palace website, Flamini said:
“Palace are ambitious with great players and I am looking forward to being part of the squad. It is a very interesting challenge for me and I am very excited to be here. I have had chance to discuss the move here with Alan Pardew and he really helped me make my decision.”
Welcome to Palace Mathieu!
