Ladies Back In Action

After an excellent first half of the season, the Palace Ladies sit proudly at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League (South East Division One).

Following a well deserved winter break, they should have returned to action at the weekend but the terrible weather conditions decimated the fixture list which included their scheduled game at sixth placed Norwich City.

Not ideal preparation as this means that their first game of the New Year is in the FA Cup against West Ham United on Sunday 10th January. Kick off at Bromley Football Club is 2pm.

However, West Ham will not have the upper hand as their fixture was also postponed at the weekend. They have had a testing time of late with a number of players leaving the club and are currently eighth in the FA Women’s Premier League (Southern Division). This is the division Palace Ladies are striving to achieve promotion to this season.

The Hammers have 14 points from 15 games played having won four, drawn two and lost nine. Their last game before the winter break was a 4-2 home win against struggling Plymouth Argyle who are bottom of the league which halted a two game losing streak.  In their last six games they have won two and lost four so it could well be a good time to play them.

Then it will be a return to league action for the ladies as they look to continue their stranglehold on top spot in the table. Here are the fixtures for rest of the moment;

  • 17/01 Luton Town (h)
  • 24/01 Milton Keynes Dons (a)
  • 31/01 Cambridge United (h)

Going into these games, Palace are currently on 31 points from 11 games which is five points clear of Luton Town in second place who have played two games more. Milton Keynes Dons are third with 25 points from 12 games while Cambridge United sit third on 20 points from 14 games. Having only played 8 games so far, Gillingham who were relegated last season, currently have 19 points so could well play themselves into contention.

We will have the next update from club chairman Richard Spokes next week following the cup game with West Ham. In the meantime, please follow the Palace Ladies Twitter account for updates on fixtures changes and do not forget to check out the new CPLFC.TV channel on You Tube.
