Fantasy Preview – Match Week 8

Fortunately there has not been much in the way of fantasy news or injuries this week so we can just jump straight into my tips for buying and selling for MW8.

13

Sell: Sergio Aguero – Forward, Manchester City, 13.2

While you may not be falling behind on Aguero with his ownership sitting at 31%, there is no doubt he has been disappointing. With just one goal, the Argentine is currently tied for 19th in fantasy points in the official Premier League game on 19 points. While the Newcastle United matchup is far from a frightening one, I am done with Aguero and it is at least time to start wondering if you are too.

11

Buy: Alexis Sanchez – Midfielder, Arsenal, 11.1

I was not big on Sanchez last week against Leicester City and boy was I wrong. The Arsenal talisman had more goals last week (3) than he had shots on target (2) in any previous match and a league leading eight successful take-ons. With Luke Shaw missing through injury, one of Rojo, Blind, or Darmian will be tasked with keeping Alexis in check, and I am not sure they will.

Sell: N/A

10

Buy: David Silva – Midfielder, Manchester City, 10.1

Silva still sits second in the league in assists (4) despite having missed the past three weeks. With the continued struggles of Jesus Navas I would expect Silva to once again become the main catalyst of the high-powered Manchester City attack with Kevin De Bruyne pushed out wide. Newcastle have the second worst goal difference this season so an assist and a clean sheet would be entirely possible for the Spaniard this week.

Sell: Diego Costa – Forward, Chelsea, 10.9

He will miss this week through suspension, but I have no interest in him even when he comes back. Pedro has yet to live up to his excellent debut and neither Cesc Fabregas nor Hazard look the players they were last season so the chances are coming less frequently.

9

Buy: Harry Kane – Forward, Tottenham, 9.4

He finally scored! Despite calls for offside, Kane put the ball into an open net for what will likely be the first of many goals this season. With Christian Eriksen back from injury and the continued development of Erik Lamela and Dele Alli, Kane will no longer be starved for service. Swansea City have only kept one clean sheet this season so there should be goals in this one.

Sell: Pedro – Midfielder, Chelsea, 9.5

Pedro has notched just five fantasy points in his last three matches and seems to lack the sharpness that saw his ownership sky-rocket after his first two performances. I do think Pedro will figure it out, but I just cannot warrant spending the inflated cost of any Chelsea player at the moment.

8

Buy: Yaya Toure – Midfielder, Manchester City, 8.9

Toure is currently top 10 in both assists (3) and chances created (15) and tends to play even better when David Silva is on the pitch. The fact that he’s dropped in price is absurd, especially heading into a matchup against a Newcastle side that struggles against pace in the midfield.

Sell: Aaron Ramsey – Midfielder, Arsenal, 8.3

Despite only missing fourteen minutes this season, Ramsey has yet to earn more than three points in a match this season. He has been played out of position at times which somewhat explains the drop in performance, but who is to say that will not continue? Manchester United are tied for the best defensive record in the Premier League and I doubt Ramsey is the one to break that up.

7

Buy: Dimitri Payet – Midfielder, West Ham, 7.9

This is the easiest call of the week. Payet is the second highest scoring player in the official Premier League game and Togga formats and is now facing the worst defense in the league. Without any Europa League or Capital One Cup football to worry about, Payet is the first name on the West Ham United team sheet every week and should continue to rack up points as their best creator and one of their best finishers.

Sell: Gylfi Sigurdsson – Midfielder, Swansea, 7.3

There has been a lot of speculation regarding Sigurdsson’s struggles but the main point here is that there are struggles. Swansea started the season hotter than anyone but have now failed to record a goal from open play in the last 294 minutes of game play. Now Swansea face a Tottenham side who have conceded just one goal in the past four matches? No thanks.

6

Buy: Erik Lamela – Midfielder, Tottenham, 6.8

I now think Lamela is enough of a guaranteed starter with the injury to Heung-Min Son, and as such is at least worth a look. He has been involved in five of Tottenham’s last eight goals with three goals and eight assists. Five of the eight goals Swansea have conceded have come from opposing midfielders so Lamela may well capitalise.

Sell: Yannick Bolasie – Midfielder, Crystal Palace, 6.2

I know he has only started two matches this season, but averaging two points a game just is not good enough. I am shying away from most Crystal Palace attacking players until they get more from the forward position. West Bromwich Albion have a very weird record in which in seven matches they have four clean sheets, and conceded three goals in each of the other three. Unfortunately, I think Palace are on the wrong side of that statistic unless Connor Wickham returns.

5

Buy: Eric Dier – Defender, Tottenham, 5.1

This has surprisingly little to do with his second goal of the season, and much more to do with Tottenham conceding just one goal in the last four Premier League matches. He gets extra points on goals, assists, and clean sheets as he’s listed as a defender but plays in the midfield every week.

Sell: Asmir Begovic – Goalkeeper, Chelsea, 5.0

Newcastle seems to be a good match on paper, but the only match in which he earned more than three points was against a nine man Arsenal side. Many saw Begovic as a decent handcuff for the injured Thibaut Courtois, but the Chelsea defense just is not good enough to support him.

4

Buy: Dele Alli – Midfielder, Tottenham, 4.9

He has just been called into the England squad on the back of excellent performances over the past few weeks. While his role seems to be flexible he is absolutely a threat when getting forward and will likely add to his goal and/or assist tally soon.

Sell: Matt Targett – Defender, Southampton, 4.1

I know we all loved him, but now that Ryan Bertrand is back Targett will not feature much for Southampton.
