Palace make a second long trip in as many weeks to the North East, this time heading up to Tyneside to play Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
The Eagles look to prey upon a home side who are in poor form at the moment. Newcastle have failed to score in eight of their last eleven Premier League games and have netted just one goal in their last five at St James’ Park. Palace on the other hand have only netted on six occasions in their last fourteen Premier League away games.
The last top flight meeting between the two sides in the North East ended in a goalless draw as Iain Dowie’s Palace side claimed a valuable point in their fight for survival.
However, other results didn’t quite go our way and we were subsequently relegated on the last day of the season (not that anyone needs reminding).
Last time we made the trip to Tyneside was another dark day for the Eagles as confirmation of Palaces second period of administration was confirmed and punished with a ten point deduction. That quickly turned our season from and outside shot at the play-offs to a battle for Championship survival.
Palace will once again be without striker Marouane Chamakh back for this game with Danny Gabbidon (hamstring) and Barry Bannan (illness) likely to return after missing the goal less draw at Sunderland. An injury to Dwight Gayle in training could see him miss out after being sent for a scan.
The home side who will be without manager Alan Pardew from the technical area for the remainder of the season after his alleged head butt on Hull City midfielder David Meyler. Both Löic Remy and Mathieu Debuchy missed the defeat to Fulham, Remy could be in contention but Debuchy is unlikely to feature. Also missing is Gabriel Obertan and Ryan Taylor with Davi Santon, Gael Birigiamnna and Robert Elliot not exepcting to feature.
