Premier League Preview – Tottenham Hotspur

After the terrific win at Anfield, the Eagles head back to Selhurst Park knowing that another three poins from their last five games will go a long want to securing a fifth successive season in the Premier League.

The visit of Spurs to South London presents its own challenges. With Chelsea convincingly seeing off Southampton this midweek, the North London outfit will be keen to keep up with the league leaders and odds on favourite for the title to stand any chance of taking advantage of any slip ups.

Sam Allardyce is clear in his objective. While many suspect that 38 points may well be enough to survive this season, there will be no letting up until Premier League saftey mathematically secure. That will present a problem in itself to the visitors who will want to avoid the same fate as Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool in recent week.

KYLE WALKER

Former clubs – Sheffield United, Northampton Town (loan), Sheffield United (loan), Queens Park Rangers (loan), Aston Villa (loan)

The England full back will be a threat in this match with his runs down the right hand side which has earned him a season of rave reviews once again. His career began in the youth set up at Sheffield United and he made his full debut for the club in 2008. That was only one of two appearances he made and while he spent a short time on loan at Northampton Town, Spurs paid a combined fee of £9million for him and fellow defender Kyle Naughton.

After being loaned back to the Blades and having spells at Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa, the Sheffield born defender broke into the first team and White Hart Lane and has not looked back since. He has made over 170 appearances to date and scored 4 goals along with several full international appearances for England.

PREDICTION

Final league position – 2nd

It is unlucky for Spurs that they find themselves second best in a season where they have always looked title contenders. The re-emergence of a invigorated Chelsea side thanks to the terrific appointment of Antonio Conte has perhaps been the only reason why the North London side have not marched towards the title. While the door on the title race remains slightly ajar, it looks as though it will ultimately end in disappointment after what has been an excellent season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
