Palace Has Niche No London Club Has Replicated

The managing director of the Premier League Richard Masters attended a business lunch at Selhurst Park as a guest speaker. The former sales and marketing director who was promoted to managing director earlier this year had plenty of good things to say about Crystal Palace.

Palace have got two things, they play an attractive style of football and have a brilliant home atmosphere. They are the only South London Premier League club, and compared to Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur, it still feels like a local club routed in the community which is a unique thing in London.

Following news that a share of the club will be sold to investors from the US, Masters suggested that it could will be a good thing for the club.

Steve Parish is a strong personality and has a strong point of view, and in the Premier League you need that. Ultimately it boils down to getting the three points each week, but Palace have a great manager in Alan Pardew and with the way the team have started, I can see them finishing in the top ten this season.

In response to a question about a club like Palace seriously competing, Masters hinted at things only become more competitive with the new television deal.

The way the revenue is changing with television money and how it is carved up, means that every team can have a competitive squad. They may not all be challenging for the title but anyone can beat anyone in this league. When you see clubs like Leicester City sitting top of the league after fourteen games you can see things are changing for the better, and that will encourage other teams to challenge for similar success.

Much can be taken with a pinch of salt when such reports come from the media, however, when hearing such comments someone in such a position as Masters, it suggests that the club are certainly going in a direction that most feel is right.
