Steve Parish joined hosts Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy on Talksport for the Sports Bar show on Tuesday evening.
It was a very refreshing interview that you rarely hear from a football interview. Parish confessed that as a young man he had to do something he loved otherwise he would not have amounted to anything. Thankfully for Palace, he did just that.
There is plenty to take but here are some of our highlights.
- On Patrick Bamford – “top player in the Championship last year so a no brainer for us to bring him in“
- On the Premier League – “it is a squad game in the top division, but we all have to cut our cloth accordingly“
- On football agents – “you do not have to like them but if it is the right deal for the club then you get on with it“
- On this season – “we are not kidding ourselves, forty points is our first target“
- On aims – “to survive, but after that, win something and make the club better in every aspect“
- On the Palace Ladies – “we should be doing more to support them“
- On transfers – “we would like to do a couple more, signed three of the five targets, unlikely we will break the transfer record again“
- On Alan Pardew – “it was an easy choice to decide to go for him when we did“
- On Tony Pulis – “he just said he did not want to do it any more, I was shell shocked“
- On Dwight Gayle – “looks great in training, definitely has a future at the club“
- On media speculation – “they guess so much, some of the papers at the moment have lost the plot, much of what they do is made up“
- On the takeover – “it cost us £20 million all in but we quickly realised it would cost us more“
- On best buy – “Yannick Bolasie”
- On worst buy – “Jimmy Kebe“
There is plenty more of this excellent interview that you can hear in full on the Talksport website.
