You Don’t Know What You’ve Got Until It’s Gone

It was the 7th March the last time we saw Palace play – a narrow victory over Watford at Selhurst Park which was a third Premier League win in a succession.

Who knows where we would be had the season continued but that was pretty much a month ago. It seems so much longer than that looking back with no action to report on.

Let us not kid ourselves, there are much more important things to be dealing with at the moment in what is unprecedented times we are living in.

When we will get to see any kind of football return let alone just to watch Palace is anyone’s guess at the moment but I am sure you are like all of us here at TEB, that first game back will be something quite special.

It is that old saying, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone, and that is very apt in these very odd times.

As a fan, I have been particularly impressed with the way the club have dealt with this enforced lay off by not furloughing non-playing staff, players continuing to donate to good causes as the majority have often done and the Palace For Life Foundation continuing to try and do what they have always done and help the community.

The fact that we do not have any football at the moment is perhaps just a small detail but for many it is escapism, just like many other sports we follow as fans. Life can be difficult enough without the added pressure of all the things that this pandemic has brought with it, and not just health problems. Sport gives us all something to focus the mind for however long that may be, and god, do we miss it!

We do not know how this is to go on for and we are all filling our time the best we can. Some constructively, others not so much but if you are looking for something to do while stuck at home then why don’t you write a piece for TEB? We would happily publish articles that fans would like to submit about favourite games, experiences or players – anything at all Palace or football related. Just ping us a email to info@theeaglesbeak.com and we’d happily discuss further.

For now, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the NHS staff including the emergency services that are all doing a tremendous job in very difficult circumstances. That also goes for those who are still providing a service for us all – supermarket workers, delivery men and women and anyone else that are doing a job for us all – THANK YOU!

While we are in a state of lock down for the foreseeable future, here are a couple of podcasts that I have been involved with over the last couple of weeks which you may be interested to take a listen. There are more planned which I will share so please take the time to listen and share.

The first is the debut podcast for The Music and Sports Social, a show that usually airs on a community radio station in East Grinstead but live radio has not been possible for a few weeks for obvious reasons.

The second is a special edition of the EPL Round Table podcast that I have been involved with for a number of years and is always fun to be a part of. Well worth a listen particularly with a fully qualified guest from the medical profession.

For now, I would like to take the opportunity wish you all well, stay safe and stay safe and stay home.
