Brave New World Or Just A Mirage?

Leicester City win the Premier League!!

The way that the Foxes have been going this season, that statement could be heard next May, or before if they keep up their healthy four point lead at the top of the table.

Many have ridiculed the fact that the side from the King Power Stadium will likely not have the staying power. This has been said most weeks and yet, Leicester continue to surprise people but can they really do the unthinkable?

The Premier League, since it began, has always associated itself with the big names in the game and when it has not done so, it has been those with money to throw at it (see Jack Walker and Blackburn Rovers).

In truth, this season has been a breath of fresh air, unless of course you are an Aston Villa fan. You only have to look at the current table with Leicester doing so well, Palace level on points with Spurs in fourth and Manchester United in fifth. Newly promoted Watford in seventh while the other two promoted sides, Norwich City and AFC Bournemouth, sit outside of the bottom three places that they were predicted to fill.

This is the brave new world taking shape and by the time we look back on this in a few weeks time, we could see normal service resumed and this article could be irrelevant. Hopefully not as it would be a real turn up if one of the un-fancied clubs could break into the top four. Leicester are obviously best placed at the moment along with the teams already mentioned above but others with a chance of doing so are Everton and Stoke City. Both good sides and capable of putting a run together as they have quality players at their disposal.

This could turn out to be the closest Premier League season for years both at the top of the table and the bottom. Many fancy Arsenal to go on and win the title but it would be quite something for them to finish higher than both Manchester clubs and Chelsea but still lose out to Leicester. Imagine that.

Personally, I really cannot see the Foxes pull it off. I hope I am wrong but they have not really had to endure a bad run of form all teams go through and you have to think should Jamie Vardy and/or Riyad Mahrez suffer injury for an extended period of time, their form could suffer.

For the moment, enjoy the look of the table as the so called smaller teams are upsetting some of the mighty establishment and think that something very different could be on the cards in some form this season.
