The Return Of The Fiendish Palace Christmas Quiz

This time last year I posted a seasonal Palace quiz, designed to distract you from the seasonal festivities.

I have some new questions for this year and many of them have a 2016 theme.

Take your time. We will have the answers up ahead of the game against Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

Oh, and there is a new ‘Only Connect’ wall for Spike … and Tony.

Here goes:

Q1 – Which date in 2016 is missing from this list?

  • April 9th
  • May 7th
  • September 10th
  • September 24th
  • December 3rd

Q2 – If Gary O’Reilly was the first, Jason Puncheon the last, and Kevin Phillips the seventh, who was the fifth?

Q3 – Swap Deals: which players did Palace receive in return when these legends left the club?

  • Kenny Sansom (1)
  • Clinton Morrison’s first departure (1)
  • Don Rogers (2)

Q4 – Before Yohan Cabaye, Jonny Williams, Joe Ledley and Wayne Hennessey this summer, who were the last active Palace players to be selected (in one case) and to actually play in the European Championships and when was that?

Q5 – In 1976 it was Peter Taylor, in 1990 Phil Barber and in 1995 George Ndah.  Who was it in 2016 and why?

Q6 – How many Scottish international players have scored more goals for Palace than James McArthur, and can you name him/them?

Q7 – How many teams in this season’s Premier League have played in English football’s third tier since Palace last played there?

Q8 – Take a look at the list of the great and not-so-good from Palace history and tell me how many names are missing and why.

Q9 – Below are Palace starting line-ups from famous games in the club’s history . Can you name the games?

  • Bright, Burke, Gray, Hopkins, McGoldrick, O’Reilly, Pardew, Pemberton, Suckling, Thomas, Wright

Q10 – The Only Connect Wall

If you have watched ‘Only Connect’ on BBC2 you will be familiar with the ‘Connecting Wall’ round. Here is one specific to Palace.

There are sixteen names in the table below, all associated with the club. Arrange them into four groups of four, where the four in each group have something in common (other than playing for Palace of course!). Look out for red herrings – names that could appear in more than one group!

Thomas Holloway Southgate Kennedy
Hennessey Harrison Taylor Cannon
Freedman Wright Emblem Parsons
Johnson Salako Sako Carter

Good luck!
