Another Point For The Dee But Another Opportunity Missed

The previous four matches involving Dundee and Ross County had thrown up exciting encounters which produced 24 goals, so it was only inevitable that we were due to be served up a stinker.

Both sides had chances to win this game with Dundee having Scott Bain to thank for keeping them in it while County will be glad that Canadian Striker Marcus Haber decided to blast the ball past the post when it was easier to place the ball into the back of the net. Apart from that, this game was a scrappy affair with misplaced passes and mistakes with County just edging it.

After the much publicised run of six defeats for the Dark Blues a month and a bit ago, we have managed to pick up ten points from a possible eighteen with three clean sheets. It is a vast improvement on what we were watching before and if it had not been for this upturn of fortunes, we would be stranded at the bottom. If you offered me these statistics six games ago, I would have bitten your hand off.

With all the other teams around us bar Partick who were well beaten by Celtic on Friday night, picking up a point each, it was another chance missed for us to create a gap and one that I hope does not come back to haunt us. Like I said, the ten points gathered is a decent haul for any team who are in the same position as us but we will feel like we missed the boat with the last two games which could have seen us edge away from the pack at the bottom.

In previous articles, I have said that we needed to pick up a win in either of our last two league games but unfortunately the team were only able to collect one. This has also seen a small section of the supporters calling for the manager to be handed his P45 and even one or two wanting some players to be handed theirs too!

With our next two games against Celtic and Hearts, these shouts will only intensive if they both end in defeat.

Celtic at Parkhead looks like mission impossible for us. They are running away with the league now and look unstoppable. We managed a goalless draw last term in Glasgow but the odds will surely and rightly be stacked against us pulling off that result again.

As ever, I will go into this game with blind faith that Dundee can get something on Saturday. It will take a battling display from the whole team to stop the Parkhead juggernaut that have yet to be defeated in the League this season. Can we be the first team to inflict said defeat? Probably not, but we can always hope we can.

MON THE DEE!

  1. Haber was offside when he hit the ball wide.
Was flagged for it and RC got the free kick…
(A ‘lot’ of people seem to have missed that while howling at the miss! ) 🙂
