Busy Week With More Expected

Here is our weekly look at the pick of the news stories in the media involving Palace.

Patrick Bamford

The second new signing of the summer was confirmed as the young striker joined the club on a one year loan deal from current Premier League champions Chelsea. He is very highly regarded by the club from West London as well as by Middlesbrough fans where he spent last season in the Championship.

Alex McCarthy

Two signings in a week as we welcome a new goalkeeper to the ranks from Queens Park Rangers. Not perhaps the player from the Loftus Road club that most fans wanted to see but it it a very good addition to the squad.

Pre-Season Friendlies

A loss at Union Berlin last weekend was perhaps a surprise but Alan Pardew used the ninety minutes to play almost two different teams which would not have helped the fluidity of the game. However, there were several positives which included the debut of Yohan Cabaye as well as the visitors having much of the game.

On Tuesday a Palace XI travelled to St Albans which ended in a 1-1 draw. First team fringe players Paddy McCarthy, Adlene Guedioura and Barry Bannan all featured.

Next up it is the Cape Town Cup in South Africa as Palace take on Supersport United and will play either Ajax Cape Town or Sporting Lisbon in the second game. A strong squad of players have travelled for the tour including the two new signings.

Parish On TalkSport

The Palace chairman joined Andy Goldstein and Jason Cundy on the popular radio station to talk about Palace. It was a refreshingly honest chat with the chairman who suggested that the club would not break the transfer record again this summer, potentially ruling out Charlie Austin, and highlighting Jimmy Kebe as the worst signing during his time at the club. Transfer Rumour Round Up

The usual names continue to be linked to the club in the form of Charlie Austin and Ashley Williams. Read what I told a Swansea City fan site about the latter earlier in this week.

The newest names linked to the club are Alexandre Pato who has apparently been offered around several Premier League clubs and Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma. Elsewhere, Hull City have given possible suitors a warning by claiming any deal to sign their defender James Chester will cost £8 million after Palace expressed an interest.

There are likely to be some exits from the club, the most recent being Hiram Boateng who has joined Plymouth Argyle on loan until January 2016 for much needed first team experience. Algerian midfielder Adlene Guedioura is interesting Queens Park Rangers and Watford while in bigger news, Yannick Bolasie is attracting interest from Aston Villa, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. With the signing of McCarthy, it is possible that Wayne Hennessey will be leaving.

Former youth player Bayan Fenwick has had a successful trial with Torquay United and signed a permanent deal while Stephen Dobbie is on trial at Bolton Wanderers.
