Player Of The Season

The voting went live for our player of the season on Monday and here is our article in support.

It’s that time again when we look at which player is worthy of our player of the year award. After a fantastic season for Palace you voted captain Mile Jedinak as the player of last season to become the very first winner of our award.

Who will follow the captain’s lead or will Mile retain it before he heads off to Brazil with his Australian team-mates?

The players that qualify have to have played at least twenty games this season in the Premier League for Palace. This means that there are ten to choose from which proves that a settled starting line-up has been key for our survival this season.

All of us here at TEB have put our heads together and these are the players that we consider our leading contenders;

Julian Speroni

Our lovable Argentine has been in stunning form this season and has single handedly kept us in games and won us points with vital saves. He has just got better with age and many thought that he would struggle. He has risen to the challenge in the final year if his contract and we certainly hope that he adds to his tenth year at the club.

Statto – Julian is one of only eight players that have started every Premier League game to date (36)

Damien Delaney

His tears at Wembley showed us exactly what it meant to him to be promoted to the Premier League with Palace. A real fans favourite with that in mind and like Speroni, Damo was another expected to struggle this season. His form has got better as the season has gone on and his partnership with new signing Scott Dann has been the mainstay of our survival.

Statto – Damien is the joint 5th most booked player in the Premier League (9)

Joel Ward

There is nothing that phases Joel and his versatility has been a real asset to the team. A player that always puts in a great performance wherever he plays but his defensive duties at full back are where we see the best of him. A fantastic season for the former Portsmouth youth player has seen calls for him to represent his country. That is certain to happen at some stage in the future.

Statto – Joel has one assist in his 34 games for Palace this season along with a pass success rate of 75%

Mile Jedinak

The captain just does what he does. Leads from the front and runs the midfield. His combative style has been a big part of what the team have achieved this season and his goal was celebrated by fans more than any others because it was our Jedi. He heads off to the World Cup in the summer with our very best wishes.

Statto – Mile is another of the eight players that have started every Premier League game this season to date (36)

Jason Puncheon

The loanee made permanent. Fleeting glimpses of form and then that penalty miss against Spurs dare I mention it again. Since then he has been an absolute revelation and his goals have arguably been a massive part our great form that has seen us pull away from the bottom three. An experienced midfielder who has often flattered to decieve but it looks very much like he has found his home.

Statto – Jason is the leading scorer for Palace (7) and also has the best shots per game (2.3)
