Our weekly look at Palace in the news along with our own take on each. Any transfer rumours included should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.
Scott Dann
The Player of the Year has signed a new five year deal at the club following interest from Everton. He joins James McArthur, Julian Speroni, Brede Hangeland, Damien Delaney and Jason Puncheon who have each committed their future to the club. With the addition of Yohan Cabaye to the squad, the future is certainly bright.
Pre-Season
A good run out on Tuesday night at Gander Green Lane as a Palace youth team took on Sutton United on their new 3G pitch. The visitors ran out 2-0 winners courtesy of Keshi Anderson and an own goal. Next up is a trip to Germany for the first team squad to play Union Berlin on Saturday.
Goalkeeping Change
Queens Park Rangers are holding out for Palace to meet to release clause of £3.5 million for their reserve goalkeeper following an initial offer of £2 million being made. The former Reading goalkeeper is used to moving around after having loan spells with eight different clubs before joining QPR. If the former England Under 21 international was to join the Eagles he is expected to replace Welshman Wayne Hennessey who has interested West Bromwich Albion. (Source – Evening Standard).
Loic Remy
The striker search for Palace could well be coming to an end with sources in the French press suggesting that Remy will soon be joining his former manager at Selhurst Park. The Chelsea player has failed to secure a regular first team place after appearing for Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle United since moving from Marseille in 2013. (Source – Daily Star)
Ola John
While one media outlet is reporting the imminent signing of one striker, another is still linking the club to the Benfica forward value at £8 million. The Liberian born Dutch winger began his career at FC Twente before moving to Portugal. He had a loan spell at German side Hamburg in 2014. (Source – Daily Mail)
Dame N’Doye
Yet another striker that has been continually linked with the club and this one looks perhaps more reasonable. The Hull City striker scored a double against us at Selhurst Park and would cost in the region of £5 million although Turkish side are also interested. (Source – Metro)
Norwich City
The opening game of the season for Palace is a trip to Norwich which, while costly at £45 a ticket, the Palace faithful have snapped up the allocation in double quick time. The last time Palace travelled to take on the Canaries, the game ended in a 1-0 win for the hosts in November 2013. However, in the last five meetings at Carrow Road, Palace have won three of them.
Charity Partner
The club have announced Nordoff Robbins as the official charity partner for the season and the name and logo will appear on junior shirts. You can find out more about the charity that help transform life through music by heading over to their website.
