Straight From The Beak

Our news round up feature makes a welcome return at a time when the football season is done and dusted but the transfer rumour mill is reaching top speed.

Each week we will pick some stories out from the media involving Palace including our own take on each. We will throw in some other football news as well.

Internationals

Missing football? Well, there is a lot of action this month and we will be covering some of it both through our social media presence as well as here on the site. We already have a preview of the Women’s World Cup online that is well worth checking out. Also taking place is the Copa America, CONCACAF Gold Cup and the Under 21 European Championships. The England senior team will Republic of Ireland this Sunday in a friendly match and travel to Solvenia the following Sunday for a European Championship qualifier.

Neil Taylor

Long time Palace target Neil Taylor has signed a new deal with the Swans. There had been rumours of interest in him from Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion as well as Palace. The Welsh international left back is now contracted to the South Wales club until 2019. (Source – ESPNFC)

Yohan Cabaye

The biggest rumour of the week involving Palace has to be the news that former Newcastle United midfielder has rejected Aston Villa in favour of a move to Selhurst Park. If the move does materialise then it would be a real sign of intent by the club as the Frenchman would be reunited with former boss Alan Pardew. Before joining Newcastle he played for Lille which is the same French club that Palace signed defender Pape Souare from. (Source – The Sun)

Pre-Season

As we wait for confirmation of where in the world Palace will be travelling in build up for the 2015/16 season, the club have confirmed a friendly at Fulham on 1st August. (Source – Official CPFC)

Patrick Bamford

After what was a disappointing loan deal last season when Palace brought in Yaya Sanogo from Arsenal there could be another similar deal for next season. This time the target is young Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford who has just returned from a very successful spell at Middlesbrough. (Source – What Culture)

Curtis Davies

The injury prone Hull City defender has been linked with Palace on more than one occasion this past week or so. It appears that he available for transfer following the Tigers relegation to the Championship. Centre defence is certainly an area where we may need cover as Damien Delaney is not getting any younger and Brede Hangeland may not stay for next season. (Source – Daily Star)

Jordan Rhodes

Another old favourite that the media like to link us with and it is a surprise that no club has taken a gamble on the striker. The Scottish forward has always scored goals but it remains to be seen if he can do it at the top level. There is a view that he could be a younger version of Glenn Murray. Financials

It was revealed by the Premier League this week that Palace made over £77 million this season. Palace appeared on live television 11 times in the season which was more than a handful of clubs that only appeared 10 times. Incredibly, Newcastle United featured 20 times on live television which was not far behind the teams that finished in the top four. (Source – Official Premier League)
