Weekend Betting Tips

This week on The Eagles Punt (TEP), there is a continuation of last weeks column as well as a selection for the Scottish Grand National.

As always, I will offer a couple of selections on the Palace game of the weekend, as well as giving my opinion on the best additions to your weekend football accumulator before finally offering a couple of tips on a horse or two. For those who enjoy testing their luck in various games, “satta king” has gained popularity as an exciting way to engage with chance and strategy, making it a notable option for enthusiasts looking to add some thrill to their weekend.

First, a look back at last week:

Last week’s results

Palace game selections: 1/2 +2.1 (Glenn Murray to score at anytime)
Other Football bets: 1/1 +4.41 (Middlesbrough, Norwich City and Watford treble)
Horse Selection: 1/3 +3.00 (Whisper wins the Stayers hurdle + two Grand National losers)

Total: +9.51

Overall results

Total Profit: +27.49 (per £1 staked)

Palace game selections: +21.78
Other Football bets: +1.41
Horse Selections: +4.30

This week, Palace host West Bromwich Albion and welcome back Tony Pulis to Selhurst Park. Last year’s ‘Crystal Pulis’ team was very strong at the back and if the roles were reversed, I would expect a goalless draw. However, the Albion do not seem to be as strong at the back as Palace were under Pulis and this Palace team is undoubtedly one of the top five or six form sides in the division at the moment.

Goalscorer Bet

Wilfried Zaha to score anytime – 7/2 with Betfred

I am taking a small risk on this one and looking outside of the box to see more of a motivational aspect.

Tony Pulis did not want Wilf back at his home club. He all but made that clear before and after he left. Maybe, he could not be dealing with a player with a lack of confidence or he is just not his type of player. However, Wilf has looked his old self over the last few months and if he gets one on one with one of these Baggies players, they will be left for dust.

With his competition against Yannick Bolasie over who can score more goals, as well as making sure they are each on the end of the others crosses, he is likely to get a couple of chances and who would bet against seeing his big toothy grin in front of Pulis on the sideline?

Match Bet

Palace to win by at least two goals (Palace -1 goal head start) – 13/5 Paddy Power

I will keep this simple. West Brom are fighting, but barring the odd player, I do not think they are that great a team. Palace are going to continue playing hard, and this team has something to prove against their old manager. I think there is every chance West Brom will score, but Palace have scored eleven in the last four games against a few teams who are better set up than the visitors currently are. Accumulator For The Weekend – pays total odds of 6.65/1

  • Bournemouth (-1) to beat Sheffield Wednesday (10/11 odds)
  • Watford (-1) to beat Birmingham City (11/10 odds)
  • Derby County to win at Huddersfield Town (10/11 odds)

I will stick with the Championship this week and continue to back some of the promotion contenders. Bournemouth played poorly last week, yet still managed to defeat a hapless Brighton side. Sheffield Wednesday are still fighting, but I do not think they will be good enough to get any sort of result at Dean Court.

Birmingham are as capable of scoring goals as most teams in the Championship, but are poor defensively, and the Watford front three of Vydra, Deeney and Igbalo are taking teams apart at will. They should be more than good enough to win at home.

Derby are away at Huddersfield, and the key to their rejuvenation in form is the return of Chris Martin, who may not be scoring many, but is allowing more chances to fall to the likes of Darren Bent who has been taking his chances recently.

This Week’s Horse Selection

Broadway Buffalo to win the Scottish Grand National (Ayr 3.45) 0.5pts each way at 12/1 with Skybet, (first 5 1/4 odds)

A strong staying horse who avoided the Aintree Grand National last week to be aimed at this race. Came a close second to Cause of Causes in the four mile race at Cheltenham, and the good ground will not affect the horse at all.

Usual Disclaimer: Gambling is for over 18’s (says the 24 year old who has been gambling for about 16-17 years), and only bet money that you can afford to lose.
