This week on The Eagles Punt (TEP), we return to a weekly preview of this weekend’s football from a betting side of things.
I will offer a couple of selections on the Palace game of the weekend, as well as giving my opinion on the best additions to your weekend football accumulator before finally offering a couple of tips on a horse or two.
This week, Palace will visit Stoke backed by a 2,900 away crowd, looking to continue the strong away form that we had been showing up until we played Southampton a few weeks back. With injuries taking their toll, and doubts surrounding Zaha and Puncheon, it could be an interesting team selection by Pardew with Chamakh remaining out.
Goalscorer Bet
Anytime Goalscorer: Glenn Murray – 10/3 – Ladbrokes
Against QPR, Glenn was excellent in every phase of the game other than nicking a goal. Oh how we have missed his consistent goalscoring presence since May 2013!
Outside Bet
Both Teams To Score and Palace to win – 8/1 – Betfair
Defensively, Stoke will offer a threat, but with the likes of Bolasie flying forward on the counter attack, there should be goals in this game, despite the tightening of the Palace defence in recent games.
Treble For The Weekend
Leeds -0.5 goals to beat Blackpool (2.03 decimal odds)
Leeds are in form and have been picking off the weak teams when they’ve been playing against them, Blackpool are frankly awful, and are 18 points off safety with 8 games to play…
Southampton vs Burnley – Over 2.5 goals (1.98)
Burnley are fighting to stay in the division and unlike other teams around them, they’re fighting for their manager and themselves to consistently put in good performances. Southampton’s defence hasn’t been as good as of late, and Burnley do score goals as well as conceding, which sounds like a good recipe for goals.
Norwich vs Notts Forest – Over 2.5 goals (1.8)
This could be a bit dodgy, because Freedman has been known to try and scrape a point. However, they are only 8 points off the play-offs and there are teams scrapping above taking points off each other, while Forest are one of the form teams in the division despite losing their striker to a serious injury.
This week’s horse selection is: Newbury 2.00 – Pepite Rose – 4/1 – Hills – Won this race last year by a large distance last year. Yet to win since that day, but has a chance off of the same weight, and has been mainly running in higher category races.
Usual Disclaimer: Gambling is for over 18’s (says the 24 year old who has been gambling for about 16-17 years), and only bet money that you can afford to lose.
