The Eagles Punt

Welcome to the fifth edition of the new and improved weekly feature ‘The Eagles Punt’.

This week, we begin with what is always bad news for a gambling column and announce to the embarrassment of all six of us that we did terribly last week. We have written our lines and all promise to do much better!

Introductions

  • @cpfcpatriot – The Eagles Beak tipster
  • @Andy_Bloss – Andy, now of @FYPFanzine, formerly of the local Guardian
  • @HLTCO – Dan, the man behind the HLTCO blog
  • @RedNBlueArmy1 – Terrence, who runs the RedNBlueArmy fan site
  • @EagleGolfTips – Tony, who gives excellent golf tips on his Twitter page
  • @Oh__My__Word – Chris, frequent gambler and tipping extraordinaire

The Winning Bets

  • We will hide the embarrassment and quickly gloss over the eighteen losing bets. Suffice to say, none of us saw a goalless draw coming!

Dan still leads the group by a distance of £116.10 while Blossy continues to prop up the table!

Preview

This week, Palace return to the ground where the jubilant scenes of April remain fresh in the mind. One of the greatest Palace away performances of recent memory was last season at Goodison Park, and with all that has happened since then, it seems near impossible for it to happen again.

Despite poor performances in recent games, in every game this season the team have looked strong at the start before going off the boil. If Gayle and Zaha had taken their chances against Burnley, we would have looked at a different game where the true counter-attacking style could have been used. Whether or not we can get a result against this Everton team will depend on taking our chances and not letting the wings get overloaded by Coleman and Baines. To the credit of Pulis, he stopped this in April with both Puncheon and Bolasie controlling the wing play in that game, but it has been a weakness this season both in attack and defence. Hopefully Jedinak is at his best should he play on Sunday, and without Chamakh, the ball is going to have to remain on the floor as I struggle to see a rational reason for any striker barring Gayle starting up front.
