The Eagles Punt

Welcome to the second edition of the new and improved weekly feature ‘The Eagles Punt’.

Last week saw the debut of a virtual betting competition between various fan websites as well as a fellow Palace tipster.

The gentlemen behind Twitter handles @Andy_Bloss (who represents Five Year Plan), @HLTCO, @RedNBlueArmy1 and @EagleGolfTips continued their poor starts by yet again scoring -£30. Your TEB tipster joined them this week in the loss column and quite frankly, making us all look stupid.

So, this week, we have an additional preview and tips from @Oh__My__Word, also known as Chris. He (like me) is a frequent gambler and an intelligent one at that. His preview and tips are at the bottom of the column.

Preview

After a couple of interesting weeks, Neil Warnock takes the team up to Newcastle to try and put some points on the board before we head into the international break. I foresee a Newcastle United team who are confident coming out and trying to score on what has been a weak defence so far this season. I have a feeling that Dwight Gayle will finally get himself off the mark for the season whether starting or if he is still stuck on the bench, and it might be enough for a 1-1 or a 1-2 result.

Here are this week’s selections:

@cpfcpatriot (-£15) picks:

  1. Palace to draw or win pays £21 with William Hill
  2. Watford, Wigan Athletic and MK Dons to win pays £52.40 with Bet365
  3. Dwight Gayle to score at anytime pays £47.50 with Bet365

@HLTCO (-£60) picks:

  1. Over 2.5 goals in the Newcastle/Palace game pays £22.50 with BetVictor
  2. Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Millwall to win pays £129.50 with William Hill
  3. Dwight Gayle to score first pays £130 with Boylesports

Here is your extra-special, bonus preview. This includes Chris’s explanations for his picks and it is a lot more cohesive than anything I have ever written. Thanks Chris.

Newcastle v Palace

A tough fixture to begin Warnock’s reign but not one he will be too afraid of getting something from. The Toon have only scored in three of their last ten Premier League games and only won one of those! With our backs to the wall and Warnock’s fighting spirit in our veins, I expect us to ride whatever storm the Geordies throw at us and come away with a point. Tip – no goalscorer @ 15/2

Newcastle v Palace 1st scorer

Despite picking up twice as many bookings than goals in his career thus far, Jack Colback will be in buoyant mood after his England call-up and does pose a threat with his runs into the opposition box, as per his goal against West Bromwich Albion in May. Also, it will be just our luck if Colback shuts up all those mocking him! I do not expect there to be many goals in this game so I am going with a very small punt. Tip – Colback @ 25/1

English League Treble

First up is Barnsley in League One. Top scorers thus far and they visit struggling Yeovil Town who have conceded four in their opening two home games. The Yorkshiremen are far too overpriced with Leroy Lita up front now and well worth a punt.

Secondly, we have Dagenham & Redbridge at Oxford United in League Two. The Daggers have won their last two games and only lost to Morecombe (who have won all four games and away at Burton who have a 100% home record). They travel to an Oxford side who have lost all four league games and whom must be heartbroken after their midweek penalty shootout defeat at West Brom. Those 120+ minutes will not help their cause against a D&R side who did not play midweek.

Lastly, we have Portsmouth at home to Newport County . Two sides heading in opposite directions. Pompey have won nine of their last 13 games, only losing to Stoke City in that time. Newport have lost five of their last seven and have begun the season poorly with just one point in their four games. Tip – Barnsley, Dagenham & Redbridge and Portsmouth all to win @ 21.79/1.

Good luck!
