The Eagles Punt

Our resident tipster Paul Darville is back this week with his thoughts on th best value odds ahead of the weekend fixtures. YOu can follow Paul on Twitter @cpfcpatriots.

Disclaimer – Gambling is for over 18’s (says the 23 year old who has been gambling for about 16-17 years), and only bet money that you can afford to lose.

The three tips from last week didn’t work out too well, but the point was there to be made! Solid defence, a bit of Eden Hazard magic to get a second half goal, but I didn’t bank on Speroni making a world class save! And lets be honest, when you beat Chelsea, who cares about gambling!!

The Palace tip to get a clean sheet by half time came in, but with it being an own goal, none of the outside goalscorer tips came in.

This week is a tough one to predict. The Eagles are now the joint sixth best defence in the league alongside Liverpool, whereas Cardiff have the worst defence in the league. Cardiff scored had a 3-3 draw last week away to West Brom, but have still only scored nine more than Palace, who remain the lowest scorers of the 92 Premier League and Football League clubs, and are yet to score a goal from open play since the 8th February.

It’s a hard game to pick out a correct score bet, so I will settle on these bets:

  • First Goalscorer – No Goalscorer – 8/1 Ladbrokes. Rather than backing 0-0, No Goalscorer excludes Own Goals, and Pulis as well as Palace fans would take a 0-0 right now.
  • HT/FT – Draw/Palace – 13/2 Skybet. It’s no secret that Palace have been solid in the first half of games, and have looked to press on in the 2nd half with strong, counter-attacking play. If Cardiff look to secure a win in the 2nd half, it will play into the hands of Palace.
  • Clean Sheet for Crystal Palace – 4/1 StanJames. If you fancy Speroni and the back 4 to secure a 10th League clean sheet of the season, Stan James will quadruple your stake. They’ve stopped more potent teams than Cardiff, and but for a 94th minute goal for Papiss Cisse, would have gone over 300 minutes without conceding a goal since Swansea. Even so, 1 goal in that time is a success when you consider the teams we have been up against.

Obscure Value Bets (while wearing red and blue tinted glasses):

  • Glenn Murray to score last: 9/1 Ladbrokes. Late sub in games, he’s due a goal (though I could be saying this until the end of the season!)
  • Jason Puncheon to score anytime 9/2 bet365. Like Murray, he’s due a goal! Not scored since he gained us important points back in January.

I’ll finish with a few general football tips and a horse I expect to do well at the weekend.

  • Banker Treble: Man Utd, Wigan and Wolves pays 4.11/1 with BetVictor
  • Risky Treble: Norwich, Rotherham and Scunthorpe pays 9.35/1 with BetVictor
  • Random Horse Racing Tip for Saturday: Aintree 2.05 – Hinterland. Aintree 5.10 – Katgary
  • Grand National Tip: Balthazar King (red and blue colours as well!)
