Massive Game In The Highlands

I’m not going to dwell on the defeat to Aberdeen last Friday too much.

The beating we received was expected but the 3-0 scoreline, not so much. The post match blow out from the Dundee fans was reminiscent of the one they had after our shock cup exit but on a higher level.

Scott Bain kept the score down but we could have had a few ourselves – Paul McGowan’s audacious lob which rattled the top of the cross bar and Craig Wighton’s goal which was disallowed after Marcus Haber was adjudged to have been offside. Even if McGowan’s lob went into the back of the net or the flag was kept down, Aberdeen were the better and stronger team that night and deserved their win.

The defeat made it fourteen games without a win for us against the Dandy Dons.

On to Transfer Deadline Day, and it was more eventful for Dundee than previous years. We saw no fewer than four players leave on loan and another go back to his parent club. In this window, we had already seen five players leave on loan or extend their stay from a previous one which totals nine players leaving through the Dens Park entrance.

We did however see two new faces join the ranks. Former Motherwell winger Henrik Ojamma joins us from Go Ahead Eagles for the reminder of the season while Paul Hartley captured the signing of midfielder Marc Klok on a six month deal after the player’s contract with Oldham Athletic ran out.

I have tried to cast my mind back to Ojamma while he was with Motherwell but for life of me, I cannot remember too much about him. The same goes with Klok who spent a season with Ross County but only made six appearances. As ever though, both players will be given the chance to shine before any judgement is cast. Hopefully they add something to the team that has been missing for a while. Creativity.

The game this Saturday is a huge one for the club. We travel all the way up to the Highlands for an important clash with bottom of the table Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

So many times I’ve written that we haven’t managed a win in over a decade in the league against Caley. Well, we managed to do just that this season by defeating them 2-1 at Dens.

So many times I’ve written that we have never won up on their patch in the league. Well, now is a good enough time for us to also banish that unwanted record. They have already beaten us 3-1 at their home ground this season but this was at the start of our run of six straight defeats. Since then they have only managed one win for fourteen games.

Caley have brought in five players this window with four of them adding to their attack although it didn’t seem to help them in any way as they were soundly beaten 3-0 midweek against fellow strugglers Hamilton.

Like every other game this season for Dundee, this will not be easy. Many people are already writing us off and backing a Caley win and that’s from some of our own fans!

We can certainly grab a result against them. A win would be massive for us and open up an eight-point gap. Considering the past few weeks, that would be the ideal tonic for team who have conceded five and scored none in the past two games.

MON THE DEE!
