Nothing is worse than conceding a 92nd minute goal to lose a game of football!
Maybe I’m being a tad dramatic of course but to have a point snatched out from our hands with the seconds ticking down was sickening.
This result saw us hit the bottom of the table again but if the performance against Rangers at Ibrox and our wins against Hamilton and especially Motherwell are anything to go by, we should surely be moving up the table in the near future.
The statistics say that it was all Rangers but from what I saw, they did indeed have the bulk of the possession lacking in a killer touch and rarely troubled our goalkeeper Scott Bain who was back in the starting eleven after a few weeks out.
I’ve read a few match reports that speak about how we parked the bus and hardly left our half but we certainly had our chances, some of which were far closer than the eventual victors. We put in a polished performance at the back, the midfield work tirelessly and Marcus Haber and Craig Wighton continued to link up well up front when we did move forward. We may have been beaten but we certainly deserved what would have been a well earned point.
Next up for Dundee is a game against the team that have provided to be that thorn in our side throughout the years, Inverness ‘Bloody’ Caledonian Thistle.
It’s been EIGHTEEN games spanning just less than TWELVE years since we tasted our only win in the league against the Highlanders. I’ve pulled up some pretty horrific statistics when I’ve been researching previous games but the fact we have only beat Caley once in any league match is utterly horrific.
The last time we defeated them in a league game, I still had to dish out my ID to get served in pubs, Elvis Presley went back to number one in the charts with the re-release of Jailhouse Rock and Coach Carter was at the top of the box office.
We did manage a win in 2009 but that came in the Challenge Cup Final and not the league so it doesn’t count.
Regardless of what numbers, I feel more confident than not that we will shatter this hoodoo. Then again, If football has ever taught me anything, it’s that I should never go into any game brimming with confidence as it will undoubtably end in heartache for this poor wee soul.
I can only hope and pray that we can confine this terrible statistic to the depths of the history books and start a new chapter where the Dee’s run supreme over Caley, inflicting defeat after defeat against our visitors from the North.
MON THE DEE!
