Klopp Has A Pop At The Kop

I turned around and I felt pretty alone at this moment but I am not disappointed about this (fans leaving) — they have reasons.

But we are responsible that nobody can leave the stadium a minute before the last whistle because everything can happen. Between 82 and 94 [there were four minutes of added time] you can make eight goals if you want but you have to work for it.

That is what we have to show and we didn’t, and things are like they are. We decide when it is over. – Jurgen Klopp speaking to Sky Sports about fans leaving early in their game against Palace.

WELCOME TO ENGLAND, JURGEN.

And if you think things are going to change at Anfield, or any other Premier League ground for that matter, then you are in for a surprise. Stadia in this country, particularly in the top flight are often quite full, yet often so dull, lifeless and plain boring.

Herr Klopp has been used to the fantastic backing received from his former club’s supporters at Borussia Dortmund, where they will back you unquestionably throughout the game. Those days are gone in England.

It simply costs your average Premier League fan too much money, there a lot of social classes priced out of the game, and then the ones that can afford to go, along with a new generation of fashionable football fans simply cannot bare watching them team lose a football game. It is the end of world don’t you know? I mean god forbid anyone that wants to have a few pints, meet with their mates and enjoy the day regardless.

Klopp needs to realise sooner rather later that unless his team have won a game, whether that be at home or away from home, there will be murmurings of discontent and often boos.

On many occasions crowds do not back their team in the hope they will give something back, which is in my opinion how it should be. If I had a quid for every time I have heard someone say ‘They need to give us something to sing about’, I would be quite a rich bloke by now.

I was watching a Brazilian game on the television just this weekend, TIFO displays all over the shop, singing, standing, fans who clearly care. And you know what? If anyone has a right to boo should things be going badly for a team and their management, it is those fans. It is supporters like the ones at Dortmund too. You cannot complain then, you give your all supporting them, if they fail to give the same back, fair do’s, have a little boo if it makes you feel good. They probably don’t though!

Klopp has every right to have a go at the streams of fans exiting the Anfield with more than ten minutes to go, but it will not change a thing. The soul of football has been sold to Sky and BT and thanks to that unfortunately silence is the loudest noise at your closest Premier League ground nowadays.

For me the time for answers has long gone, so you know what? We will just have to get used to it.

This weeks action starts on the south coast …

Bournemouth 0 Newcastle United 1 – Despite having more shots at goal than any other team in the top flight this season (20), Bournemouth not only failed to score, but lost out at home to fellow strugglers Newcastle.

Leicester 2 Watford 1 – Everyone is still waiting for the Foxes amazing start to the season to come to some kind of halt, but they keep passing test after test. Leicester have lost just two of their last thirteen home matches in the top flight and those defeats came against Chelsea and Arsenal.

Manchester United 2 West Bromwich Albion 0 – United took advantage of the Baggies, who again were intent on settling for a point and failed to do so. Albion completed just 178 passes in this encounter, that is less than two per minute.

Norwich City 1 Swansea City 0 – Swans manager Garry Monk, according to reports, has reason to be fearful he could lose his job. His side are six games without a clean sheet.

Sunderland 0 Southampton 1 – The battle of the two teams with long names starting with an ‘S’ ended in victory for the Southampton. The Saints are plodding on without too much fanfare this season, yet are six games without defeat and seventh in the table. Not bad.

West Ham United 1 Everton 1 – The only draw out of all seven of Saturday’s fixtures came at the Boleyn Ground in the match between the Hammers and the Toffees.

Stoke City 1 Chelsea 0 – Cheslea suffer defeat again, this time at the hands of Mark Hughes’ Potters. Mourinho’s Blues have totted up just 0.92 points per game so far this season. They won the league last term with an average of 2.29 points per match.

Aston Villa 0 Manchester City 0 – The ‘new manager effect’ appeared to have a say in this one as City struggled to break down a revitalised Villa. This was Villa’s first home clean sheet of the season. Remi Garde still has plenty of work to do though to save the Villans.

Arsenal 1 Tottenham Hotrpur 1 – The North London derby finished all square. A win for the home side would have seen them go top, Pochettino had other ideas.

Liverpool 1 Palace 2 – The Eagles have won every single game this season against teams currently below them in the league. The list reads Liverpool, Watford, West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Congratulations on that victory by the way. Well deserved, and hopefully one of many for away sides at Liverpool this season!
