‘Unacceptable’ and ‘Embarrassing’.
These were just the few choice words that Paul Hartley used after the mauling that Celtic handed out to us on Sunday.
It was a dreadful performance from the Dark Blues. We offered no attacking options, the midfield was posted missing and the defence …… well I will not go into that. The only saving grace was Scott Bain in goal who single handily stopped this game tallying up into double figures!
It was that bad a performance that the Celtic television commentators were laughing and joking as the game went on and even compared one of our players to someone who would not get into their five-a-side team on their performance. If truth be told, it was hard to be offended by them as the game was unfolding.
The best thing to do after this result is to not dwell on it at all. Yes, the score line was horrific. Yes, the team failed to show up but now they owe us a performance and more importantly three points from the next game. I guarantee that if we pick up four or six points from our next two games then this result will be forgotten about very quickly.
Moving swiftly on, we look ahead to the match with Ross County.
They have started this season fantastically and deserve the position they are in at the moment. For a team that seemed like they could have been relegated for the most of last season, it is one hell of a turnaround.
It is also worth pointing out that just like the Inverness Caledonian hoodoo that continues to hang over Dundee, Ross County seem to hold one on us. We have only played them six times in the SPL/SPFL and have yet to register a win against the Staggies. The record so far is played six, drawn two and lost six. That is particularly grim reading. In fact looking even further back, we have not beaten them in our last ten games.
I can see Hartley setting out a very attacking team for this one by putting Hemmings, Loy and Stewart all on the front line. Or starting Ricardo Calder on the wing and using Loy as an impact sub. Kevin Holt could be in line for a recall at left back while I would give Julen Etxabeguren a starting place in the heart of the defence.
A win here and we can potentially be looking at sitting fifth after nine games with fourteen points which most teams would bite your hand off if it was offered at the start of the season.
