Maybe I Was Wrong

It is a pretty rare thing for me to admit that I might be wrong but this time it has to be said that maybe I am. Even then I am reluctant to admit I am completely wrong and it is too early to tell.

Before any of you get excited I will point out that I still have a strong dislike for that one certain defender, if you follow me on Twitter you will know exactly which one I am referring to, and he has done nothing to prove to me otherwise. I do not think much will ever change this viewpoint unless they stop making costly errors every single game.

I think it is more that I missed the memo about a couple of players in our squad and our expectations of them for the year ahead because looking around the Fantasy Premier League squads everybody else picked up on this but it completely passed me by.

First off, in my defence, I knew Bolasie was unlikely to start this weekend with injuries and just forgot to put him on my subs bench. I am not complaining about that.

My partner though decided an hour before the lock-down of teams to switch Bolasie for Zaha because he believes it is going to be the year Zaha blossoms and leaves Bolasie in his shadow. I pointed out that Bolasie opening said at the Players Award night that he wanted to score more goals this season and that after resuming full training and fitness they might be a bit closer than expected.

And looking around this seems to be the conclusion that a lot of people are coming to. I get it and agree to some extent that this year does have the potential for Zaha to really excel but since when could we only believe in one of them? If the only people coming to this conclusion were concerned about their FPL points then I would just shrug it off but there are people disregarding Bolasie that refuse to participate in things like FPL and therefore are not saying it from that.

On serious evaluation it is obvious that Zaha is likely to do fantastically this year and perhaps look better than Bolasie (but this only applies if Bolasie chooses to alter his style, approach and direction) but that does not mean that Bolasie is going to do badly.

People are desperate for him to stay at the club and yet they are putting him down and saying they expect little from his this year. Pah. I’m glad you are not my work colleague if you go around putting people down just because they get to 95% awesome and stop improving for a couple of months.

I do not want Zaha to under-achieve according to everybody elses expectations but I think that the way people are treating Bolasie is pretty harsh on him and seems to be disregarding everything he has managed in the last season. I just do not get it but perhaps I will be proved wrong and we can all cheer at Zaha in the summer as Bolasie walks away sadly (because that is what several Palace fans seem to want from their chatter).

Also I am bitterly disappointed about Wickham landing the number 21, not because it does not make footballing sense because it obviously does, but now because I feel my grand 21st birthday shirt ideas are all up in tatters. Even having 21 and my own name (I wanted Dann to ask for the number so I could convert it to Dannii or something really bad and cheesy) now seems wrong and risky. So anybody with suggestions then please throw them at me because having Wickham, who just moved to the club and is yet to prove himself, on the back of a shirt seems wrong – but perhaps you want to prove me wrong, seen as this is a week for me admitting my disastrous mistakes.
