As we look forward to a campaign in the Premier League and all the excitement that comes with it there will be several occasions where Palace will not be playing on a Saturday.
To fill this potential void we have decided to adopt a local non-league club to follow and report on throughout the season and we are likely to do this every season. We hope that this encourages fans to take in a non-league game when there is an international break or when Palace do not have a Saturday fixture.
After much deliberation we have decided to follow Sutton United this season which we know is a popular team amongst the Palace faithful.
The club from Gander Green Lane take their place in the Conference South Division this season. Their opening game is away at Eastleigh on Saturday 17th August 2013.
They have a rich history for a non-league club and are fondly remembered for their FA Cup victory over Coventry City in 1989. They have regularly toyed with the Conference but more recently found themselves in the division below in whatever guise it has been after several changes in recent years. But the current non-league pyramid is intended to help grass roots football and pits clubs against those in a relatively close location until that step up to the Conference.
