It is that time again when we look at the club in the news along with any popular trends across social media.
Club Awarded Category 1 Academy Status
It was this week announced that the Premier League has awarded the Palace Academy Category 1 status following an independent assessment – the highest category possible for academies in the country. The decision means that the club will rank alongside elite academies such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. The promotion ensures that Palace’s games programme is also enhanced – the Under-18s will play in the Premier League: South Division, whilst the Under-23s will compete in Premier League 2 next season. Find out more about the decision and what it means over on the official club website.
Hodgson Refutes Suggestions Palace Are ‘On The Beach’
After a poor run of form since the win at Bournemouth, Roy Hodgson has answered back to critics claiming his side is done for the season – “I certainly don’t have any fears about the players to keep going and give their level best in the rest of the games. I haven’t been disappointed with the way the team has performed during these games. There have been moments when we’ve done well, in particular the other night when Chelsea knew they’d been very much in a game and were quite fortunate to get away with all three points. We’ll be trying to get as many points as we possibly can in these last four games. It’s not going to be easy but it will be important to break the losing sequence.”
Final Three League Fixtures Confirmed
With just three games left to play after the trip to Villa this weekend, the Premier League has this week released full details of when those fixtures will be played. Manchester United visit Selhurst Park on Thursday 16th July in a game that kicks off at 8.15pm and will be broadcast live on BT Sport. The Eagles then travel to Wolves on Monday 20th July for another 8.15pm kick off time which will also be aired on BT Sport. The final game of the season sees Spurs travel to South London on Sunday 26th July, kick off at 4pm. Broadcaster has yet to be determined.
Who Are Palace Linked With This Week?
Several new names have cropped up this week in being linked with a move to Palace in the summer transfer window.
Metz striker Habib Diallo is rumoured to be leaving the French club and the Eagles have been linked with the £18million rated Senegal international who has scored 12 goals this season.
At the other end of the pitch, Portsmough goalkeeper Alex Bass is another name being linked. The 22 year old has just seen his side exit the League 1 play offs at the hands of Oxford United.
The heavy links with Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard have continued but the Scottish champions are looking to tie the Frenchman down to a new deal to ward off interest from the Eagles and Leeds United.
