Time Is Up For Neil McCann At Dundee

Well, Dundee have only gone and created a new record with the defeat at home to Hibs on Saturday.

Our sixth loss in a row since the start of the season means that we are now on our worst ever start to a league campaign in our 125 years as a club.

We are a team void of any ideas and a manager who seems to be utterly clueless on the touchline

We started off on Saturday quite well though and I think we all felt fairly satisfied at half time with the score line still sitting goalless. It all fell apart in the second half as the goals started to come for Hibs, you knew it would be another thumping at home for Dundee.

Our boss Neil McCann said after the game – “I think for 45 minutes we were probably the better side, always looked a threat.” We did do well in the first half but the better side? He had me wondering what match he was actually watching!

We had two chances in the ninety minutes with only one managing to reach the target and I am pretty certain they both came within the first ten minutes. For a team playing at home, that is utterly pathetic.

So what now? In my eyes, a change of manager is the only answer. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a fan that would say otherwise. He’s out of his depth and I’m bewildered why our board of directors haven’t acted already to rectify the failings in the home dugout.

After the match on Saturday, I expected to receive a notification on my phone that McCann and the club had parted ways but that has yet to happen. He has at least the Hamilton match this coming weekend to get a result.

It’s ridiculous. He has proven this term and even last that he is not up to the task of managing a top-flight team. If we do pull off a victory next week, it will only be prolonging the inevitable that will be his sacking. I don’t understand the boards hesitation in trying to change our fortunes on the field as soon as possible. It’s almost like everyone bar the people calling the shots can see this.

Under McCann, we will go down. I just can’t see anything other than this scenario under the existing management team.

Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that a new manager would be able to change our fortunes and lift us up the league. Could they get more from the current crop of players? Will playing them in a system and position they feel more comfortable in result in an upturn of results? You can never tell but with what we are having to witness on the park and on the touchline so far this season, it’s the only option to take the gamble to find out.

The team may stop the rot and pull off a win in our next game against Hamilton but it will only paper over the cracks temporarily. A change is needed in the dugout and it needs to happen now.

MON THE DEE!
