Hamilton Strike Late To Save A Point

The Dee visited Hamilton Accies at the weekend, a place that has not been a happy hunting ground for us the past few years.

In the last eleven fixtures we have played Hamilton at New Douglas Park, we have only won twice, drawn three and lost six. Some fans put this dismal record down to the fact that the Accies home pitch is artificial, something that a few think give them an advantage.

Despite the controversy that surrounds their pitch, it is hard to argue with their fine home form. They have only lost once at home this season, against Celtic, but before that you would have to look all the way back to the middle of February to see a defeat on their home patch.

Going into this match I think we all expected a tough game and that is exactly what we got. Even after Hamilton went behind and were reduced to ten men for what was basically an assault on Thomas Konrad, they pushed Dundee all the way and grabbed a deserved equaliser. It was a fair result for both teams but to lose the three points with just three minutes to go was sickening.

It was also another game where we have failed to keep a clean sheet. Something that is starting to worry me as each week passes. However, it was a good point considering the players that were missing through injury – Kane Hemmings, Kevin Thomson and James McPake. Three very big players for us.

It was still another point on the board for us as we try to break into the top five in the league which would be massive considering where we were just a few years ago. Still, the league is still very tight at the moment. We are four points from reaching the dizzy heights of third place but we are also only six points above third bottom. Saying that though, I do not think you will find many Dark Blue fans looking at the bottom of the table and worried.

Next up we welcome Kilmarnock to Dens Park on Saturday. We will face a very different team to that that played against us in the season opener when we ran riot in a 4-0 victory. In their last five games they have picked up an impressive ten points so they will be entering this fixture full of confidence.

Despite the form Killie are on at the moment, I still feel we have a much stronger team than they do and we also have enough to keep the three points at Dens. It will still be a tough game but one that we can come out the other end victorious.
