Four From Four Against The Well

It was not the prettiest of games.

At some points it was downright ugly but the Dundee players were able to keep their heads up, despite some of the thuggery that the Motherwell players produced on the pitch and come away with all 3 points.

Greg Stewart was on the receiving end of a brutal challenge that ended his game early and should have resulted in a red card but like a few more challenges that the Well players produced before and after, it would not receive the sufficient punishment and only a yellow was given.

The match itself was not a classic as I mentioned in the opening few lines. Motherwell did have a good bit of the ball in the first half but they failed to do anything that would remotely come close. Same with Dundee. I would have to watch the game again but I am pretty sure our first chance on target fell to a Gary Harkins free kick right before the half time whistle.

The second half was not exactly riveting either until Dundee took the lead through striker Rory Loy who is knocking them in right now. It would not be that long until we doubled our lead when Kevin Holt stepped up to fire home a free kick to grab his first goal for the Dee.

Our first goal was well taken by hitman Loy and even though Holt’s goal was right in the bottom corner, you have to put it down to the defensive wall not doing their job right and basically having a howler.

They did get a consolation but in my opinion it was down to the defence yet again gifting another goal to the opposition.

In the end though, Dundee would hang on to the lead and make it four wins on the trot against the Steelmen and if truth be told, we never looked like losing the points despite the late consolation.

So after ten games we sit on fifteen points and in sixth place in the table. A couple of fans have given their opinion that we should be in a better position than we are in right now and even though we could be a few points better off, I am very happy with the place we are currently at.

1 Aberdeen 10 7 24
2 Celtic 10 16 23
3 Heart of Midlothian 10 3 17
4 Hamilton Academical 10 2 16
5 Ross County 10 4 15
6 Dundee 10 -2 15
7 St Johnstone 10 4 14
8 Inverness Caledonian Thistle 10 -1 13
9 Motherwell 10 -5 10
10 Kilmarnock 10 -10 9
11 Partick Thistle 10 -7 6
12 Dundee United 10 -11 5

We have just equalled our best ever start after ten games in the top division since the introduction of the three points for a win system back in 1994. Our previous best was back in the 2003/04 when we also accumulated fifteen points and we had some great players in the squad that year.

So we head into the international break on a high. The club are up there in the top half of the table and for the first time in a while, the fans are looking at how many points we are off third, fourth and fifth place instead of how many points we are off the relegation zone.

Changing days indeed for the Dens Park faithful.
