Straight From The Beak

Our weekly look at where and why Palace have appeared in the media along with our own opinion on each. We apologise for any reference to transfer speculation and suggest that each one should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Nathaniel Clyne

The former Palace academy full back looks all set to join Liverpool in a deal in excess of £12 million. Not directly club news but such a deal will trigger a sell on clause which means more interestingly that there will be a nice sized cheque heading for Selhurst Park. (Source – Telegraph)

Mandela Egbo

One player that has moved on to pastures new is the young England international who has rejected a deal at Palace to sign a four year deal with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach. It was great to chat to Mandela last season for the site and we wish him all the best with his new club (Source – Daily Mail)

Scott Dann

There has been a lot of speculation on social media about the possibility of our influential central defender being the subject of interest from Everton. With the defender originating from the Liverpool area it is an easy link to make. The club have valued the Player of the Year at £15 million which is likely to put off the Toffees. Dann began his career at Walsall and after a few loan spells went on to play for Coventry City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers. (Source – Mirror)

Matt Phillips

Many will recall the great strike at Selhurst park which left Julian Speroni standing as he scored from distance. It looks like Palace are looking at signing the Queens Park Rangers midfielder. Both West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland are also interested in the player who started his career at Wycombe Wanderers. (Source – Telegraph)

Ashley Williams

A bold move perhaps but the Swansea City captain is one player that Alan Pardew is rumoured to be interested in this summer. That could mean that one of our current crop of centre backs could make way but the former Stockport County defender will be a welcome addition. (Source – Metro)

Ola John

The Benfica striker is yet another name being linked to Palace this summer and we are not alone. Fellow Premier League sides Southampton and Swansea City are also tracking the Dutchman. He was favourite for a move to South Wales before the signing of Ghana international Andre Ayew. The Liberian born former Twente player has been capped at several youth levels as well as the Netherlands full international side. (Source – TribalFootball)

Mattia Destro

It has been reported that Palace have made an approach to Italian side Roma for their talented striker. After a promising loan spell at AC Milan, the Italian international has not lived up to expectations. French side Monaco are also interested in acquiring his services. His career began in the Ascoli youth team before moving to Inter. He never managed the step up from the youth system so moved to Genoa and then Siena. He has appeared for Italy at most youth levels as well as the full international team. (Source – Squawka)

Charlie Austin

The rumours continue to link several clubs to the popular striker but it is reported that Austin has requested that his club Queens Park Rangers drop the asking price to allow a deal to take place. It is only a matter of time before the former Hungerford, Poole, Swindon and Burnley player moves to another Premier League club. (Source – West London Sport)

Cape Town Cup

Tickets for the pre-season competition that Palace are taking part in this summer over in South Africa are now on sale. They can be purchased through Computicket and fans are being urged to secure their ticket early. The inaugural tournament at the Cape Town Stadium hosts Palace, Sporting Lisbon, SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town. (Source – KickOff)

Dame N’Doye

The Hull City striker has made clear his wage requirements as Palace continue their interest in the Senegal international along with Norwich City and Swansea City. N’Doye has moved from country to country to find a club until he settled with Copenhagen and Locomotiv Moscow before being lured to the Tigers. (Source – VitalFootball)
