The Epic Comeback Is On

Last time I wrote for my ‘Fan Chat‘ piece I remember very much a sense of despair and bewilderment about what on earth was happening on and off the pitch. Today I am delighted and still absolutely buzzing off the atmosphere and performance that I witnessed at Selhurst.

I had written my piece yesterday morning saying that Pardew still had a few things to prove if he really wanted to have everybody behind him. However, after our performance yesterday evening, that post has completely gone out the window and instead I salute Super Al and say that he has certainly got me on his side.

As a result, this post is a little shorter than the usual I write but I hope that the success of yesterday will be enough for you to keep your flags flying high, your hopes raised and Palace love reunited.

There was so much passion pouring around the ground, a sense of hope and optimism, motivation from the players and belief. As the Holmesdale Fanatics banner put it ‘our season starts now’ and if yesterday was anything to go by then we are sure in for one heck of a treat.

January could prove to be an absolutely amazing time for us to get our season really up and running. As players return from loan and the transfer window is open we have a wide range of options and combinations to set the game alight.

We have a new manager and even better, he is one that understands the club and the fans in a way that previous ones have not quite grasped. And we have a newly laid pitch, which will hopefully fair a little better than the last one did especially in the corners. With the passion around the place it really did feel like the start of the season yesterday.

As the second Crystal Palace goal was hammered into the back of the net, behind the Tottenham goalkeeper Lloris who was not having a bad game, the crowd erupted as you might expect. But the reaction of some players was incredible.

There was more than just action going on for the television cameras on the pitch, there was also a Julian Speroni bouncing up and down and throwing his hands in the air with such excitement and glee. It was suddenly like everyone believed and we were suddenly a team again with fans backing rather than many disjointed little units.

Seeing so few people leave early yesterday was brilliant. Most of those leaving do so every single week because they want to beat the crowds. It meant that the applause and singing as the full time whistle went was enough to blow the metaphorical roof off.

I was on the verge of hugging people all the way home but figured that people on the bus back to Croydon would not appreciate that. Trying to squeal and celebrate in true alcohol style was a tough thing to refuse. After Boxing Day I was drowning my sorrows yesterday, I drowned in the adrenaline of success.

I was delighted that people in the stadium were hugging the strangers next to them as the whistle went and seeing people, especially a couple of little children, doing amazing happy dances as they wandered off down the street.

The epic and somewhat increasingly traditional Crystal Palace comeback is well and truly on.
