Since we posted our first Grass Roots article of the season we were swamped with nominations for the non-league team that we should follow throughout the 2014/15 football season.
There were two clear choices – Croydon and Bromley. The decision was very difficult so after making contact with representatives from both clubs we have agreed that this season we will feature Croydon and next season we will feature Bromley.
May we just take this opportunity to thank Bromley and wish them all the best for this season and we look forward to covering them in the 2015/16 football season.
The aim of this feature is to promote grass roots football wherever possible, particularly when Palace do not have a home game or a usual kick off time considering that so often happens by being part of the Premier League.
Once a month our Grass Roots article will look back at how Croydon FC are doing and include some special features with the help of the club. Ultimately, we want to encourage fans to take the short trip down to the club to watch some games and you can start with the opening game of the non-league season this Saturday when they face Deal Town, kick off 3pm.
We had a chat with the marketing manager at Croydon Football Club Steve Hutson who was very pleased to hear of our decision to feature the club;
I speak on behalf of everyone at Croydon FC when I say that we are thrilled to be linked with TEB this season. With our football club being a short walk away from Selhurst Park, many of our supporters and players have a personal interest in Crystal Palace Football Club.
During the course of the season, we will be running a number of reduced admission games to encourage local people to follow non-league football and we shall look to TEB to make sure all Palace fans are aware of them.
After a very good pre-season, ‘The Trams’ are quietly optimistic that the season ahead will see the club progress further in the FA Cup and FA Vase plus have a good first year back competing in the Southern Counties East League.
