After an entertaining first round of group stage games, we arrive at the crucial second round of games with a lot of important matches, especially England against Uruguay.
The first round of games brought a profit from Daniel Sturridge scoring the first goal for England paying 4/1 which gave a small but better than nothing +1.00 per unit placed.
We start with the ‘Patriotic Bet’ again, and I try not to do this, but I am going to stick with the same (sort of) bet! Daniel Sturridge is going to get chances against the Uruguay defence that was cut open by the Uruguay defence. Sturridge is being offered at 2/1 to score a goal at anytime, which is great value for a player that scored for fun in the Premier League last season
Patriotic Bet – Anytime Goalscorer – Daniel Sturridge – 2/1 – Ladbrokes
Next we have an accumulator based on what look like good value selections. Brazil face Mexico who looked good but struggled to put away a poor Cameroon team. They should take victory and have got their high pressure first game out of the way.
Holland destroyed Spain in their first game and will be looking to seal qualification against Australia in this one that appears to be as one sided as any other in this tournament. France face Switzerland who despite being ranked six in the world, should not be on the same level as a rejuvenated French side. Germany face Ghana who are no Portugal, the Germans should take three points fairly comfortably.
Banker Accumulator – Brazil, Holland, France and Germany pays 3.14/1 Paddy Power
A riskier treble here with three bigger odds teams involved. Colombia took victory in their first game and do face a more difficult team in the Ivory Coast. They are more than talented enough to defeat an Ivory Coast side who struggled to beat the Japan and are looking to force themselves into the last sixteen.
Italy face Costa Rica who pulled off a shock victory over Uruguay in the last round. They should be strong enough to defeat them after a tough game against England last time out. Bosnia look capable of beating Nigeria and are good value for this bet.
Risky Treble – Colombia, Italy and Bosnia pays 6.08/1 with PaddyPower
Alexis Sanchez should take advantage of Spain’s defence who struggled to deal with Robben in the last round. His pace and direct style should be beneficial in a game where the odd goal may be important and they can counter attack.
Italy should score against Costa Rica and Balotelli is the striker with the ability and unpredictability to nick a goal against what was a surprisingly strong Costa Rica defence against Uruguay.
Anytime Goalscorer Double – Alexis Sanchez 12/5 for Chile vs Spain and Mario Balotelli 13/10 for Italy vs Costa Rica with Bet365 pays 6.82/1
