It is worth noting that being issued a squad number does not necessarily indicate that the player will be included in the final 25 man squad for the Premier League. All players who play for the club are issued a squad numbers, even youth/development players.
So, for example, Jordan Mutch has been issued #22 but might not be in the squad even if he is still at the club.
This works in reverse too. Some of you may be wondering why the youth players who have featured recently are not listed? I think it is a little strange the club decided against including them in this above list because they have numbers.
For those of you who don’t know what the Premier League rules are regarding registration of players for the 25 man squad based on age they are as follows.
A player who is 21 years old or under on 1st January 2017 does not need to be included in the 25 man squad to be submitted at the end of January 2017 or August 2017. However, if a player turns 21 during 2017 and is thus over 21 on 1st January 2018 the club will then be required to given the player a place in the squad to be submitted at the end of January 2018.
This could be a problem if we have 25 senior players come January because a couple of our youth players will/have turn(ed) 22 this year. For example Keshi Anderson and Sully Kaikai.
One thing to note. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Jairo Riedewald are included in the above list even though they are 21 and 20 years respectively. They will not be taking up places in the 25 man squad (unless the rules chance for this season).
One senior player excluded from the above list is Freddie Ladapo who at 24 years of age is nowhere near being classed as a youth player.
But like I said, squad numbers are no indication that a player will get a place in the squad or get game time.
Very well said Graham. Will be interesting to see how the final 25 man squad looks when it is announced.
