Midnight Surprise As Wilf Signs Five Year Extension
Those fans that were early to bed on Thursday evening woke up to the news that Wilfried Zaha had signed a five year extension to his current deal with the Eagles.
The terrific news broke around midnight following a teaser earlier in the evening from chairman Steve Parish who tweeted a picture of himself and Wilf, saying that discussions were on-going.
Zaha, who was awarded the Player of the Season for the last two seasons, played a huge part in Palace securing their fifth consecutive season in the Premier League.
To date, the Ivory Coast international has appeared for the Eagles on 258 occasions, scoring 34 goals across two spells that sandwich the ill fated stint at Old Trafford.
Talking to the official club website, Zaha said;
“Palace is in my heart. I don’t think the story is over. I spoke with Steve and I think I still have more to give. The supporters have been amazing and I want us to do more than just stay in the league next year. I would like to thank the chairman and his fellow owners for backing me and rewarding my progression. Let’s do this!”
Chairman Steve Parish was understandably happy to get the deal sorted out as soon as the season was over;
“Wilf has been with the club since he was eight years old and in the first team from the day I arrived. He is our talisman and someone that week in week out gives everything for the red and blue. I’m delighted he has committed his future to us.”
The news of the deal should end any recent rumours of a bid from Tottenham Hotspur and a host of other clubs showing signs of interest in the enigmatic winger.
He’s well and truly one of our own.
