Crystanbul Star Moves To North East

After plenty of speculation news finally broke that fan favourite Dwight Gayle signed for Championship side Newcastle United.

The twenty-five year old joins the Toon Army on a five year deal for a fee of £10 million.

Gayle made heads turn from his early days at Stansted where he scored forty goals in just forty-two appearances which secured him a move to Dagenham & Redbridge in 2011. He immediately went on loan to Bishops Stortford where he continued his goal scoring form with twenty-nine in forty-two games.

A loan spell at Peterborough United followed where he scored seven goals in nine games which encouraged them to sign him permanently in 2013. Just a season at London Road saw him score six goals in his twenty appearances before his £4.5 million move to Palace in the summer of 2013.

The Walthamstow born striker will be remembered most by Palace fans for his part in the game dubbed ‘Crystanbul’ where Palace came from three goals down against Liverpool at Selhurst Park to draw three all. He leaves South London after sixty-three appearances and fifteen goals for the Eagles.

We wish Dwight all the very best for the future. Thanks for the memories.
