The Newcastle View

A long trip to the North East for the Eagles is up next so we had a chat with the guys at Newcastle Stats to find out about their season and thoughts on this match up.

Q. How has your season been since we last met in the Premier League?

Consistently inconsistent. The only thing I’ve come to accept of Newcastle. I think I need a pacemaker.

Q. What did you make of that game at Selhurst Park which ended 5-1 to Palace?

Hugely disappointing. One of many games we’ve failed to turn up to lately, it would’ve been nice to beat Mr Pardew too. Hopefully we can change that on Saturday.

Q. Was it the right decision to sack Steve McLaren and is Rafa Benitez the right appointment?

I liked McClaren as a person, but he was the wrong man appointed at the wrong time. Benitez is the best appointment since Kevin Keegan & Sir Bobby Robson. If anyone can save us, it’s him.

Q. What is the general consensus among the fans over the current ownership?

I can’t really answer that one, each fan will give you a different answer. Overall, years of underachievement have certainly taken its toll.

Q. The big question is, do you think Newcastle will stay up and how big an impact will it have on the club if they do not? If they do survive, what needs to change?

My heart says yes and my head says no. We need at least seven points from the last three games. Nine will keep us up. A win on Saturday may swing it in our favour, so Alan if you’re reading, do us a favour and throw it. For old times sake. Please?

Q. Who would you name as your player of the year for Newcastle?

Chancel Mbemba, at only twenty-one (allegedly) he’s well beyond his years. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at a ‘top 6’ club in the next year or two if he keeps progressing.

Q. What are your thoughts on Palace this season?

Pardewed! Twelve to eighteen months of over-achievement and a catastrophic fall from grace. It’s happened at every club he’s been at (us included), you need to get rid now before you find yourself in the predicament we are now.

Q. Name a player from each side that the opposition should be concerned about.

Wilfred Zaha looks brilliant on his day, and given our frailties at full-back I think he’ll be a real problem for us.
For us, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been getting better and better all season, deadly in the air and doesn’t lack determination. Even when he isn’t scoring he’s a real handful. His hold up play is superb and his physique can cause real issues. When Mitro’s on fire, your defence is terrified!

Q. Your prediction?

Without a win we’re down, so providing the Newcastle we know turns up and your current form I can see us winning this one easily. 3-0 Newcastle (forever the optimist!).

Q. Please tell us a little about what you do and share anything that you are currently working on.
