Fantasy Preview – Match Week 35

That was one hectic double game week with a multitude of points up for grabs. That is likely to have sorted out the men from the boys but if you still want some suggestions on what to do this weekend, here are my tips for your teams.

13

Buy: Sergio Aguero – Forward, Manchester City, 13.5

Aguero has six goals in his last five matches. Six! This week he is up against a Stoke City side who are short a goalkeeper and just conceded four goals to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday. There are some concerns about playing time surrounding City’s Champions League fixtures, but that should not really come into play until MW36.

11

Buy: Alexis Sanchez – Midfielder, Arsenal 11.0

Sanchez has also been on fire lately with five goals in his last five matches. Five! Formatting jokes aside, Sanchez is now Arsenal’s fantasy talisman. The Gunners have the easiest remaining schedule including three of the bottom five teams in goal difference (Sunderland, Norwich City and Aston Villa).

10

Buy: Daniel Sturridge – Forward, Liverpool, 10.0

The unfortunate injury of Divock Origi really opens the door up for Daniel Sturridge. In his limited playing time (709 minutes played) he sits behind only Sergio Aguero in goals scored per ninety. In fantasy terms, that translates to six goals in his eight starts this season. Liverpool are one of just three clubs (Chelsea, Sunderland) that play this week and have a double in MW37.

9

Buy: Mesut Ozil – Midfielder, Arsenal, 9.6

I am not thrilled putting him in the ‘buy category’, but he has sixteen chances created in his last five matches. Surely he is due an assist soon, right? The matchups look very winnable (see: Sanchez, Alexis) and, with no other competitions to worry about, I feel there are a few big games left in Ozil this season.

Sell: Wayne Rooney – Forward, Manchester United, 9.9

This would have sounded crazy if you had heard it in August, but Rooney is the third best fantasy forward at Manchester United. His whopping two shots on target and one chance created since his return from injury are far from enough to convince me the England captain is worth picking up.

8

Buy: Graziano Pelle – Forward, Southampton, 8.0

Pelle has notched twelve plus points in three of his last five matches! I have never been a big fan in the past, but it is hard not to like him based on recent form and heading into a match against Aston Villa and their league worst defence. That having been said, only bring him in if you are able and/or willing to drop him after this match. My confidence in Pelle plummets next week with Manchester City and Tottenham (both top five defenses) as his next two opponents.

Sell: Romelu Lukaku – Forward, Everton, 8.8

His failure to score in consecutive double game weeks is one of the biggest fantasy failures in recent memory. The good news is that Lukaku cannot disappoint his week since he will be busy with the FA Cup semi-final. Everton do have some kind fixtures from MW36 onward, but there is not a single player at the club that you can trust.

7

Buy: Sadio Mane – Midfielder, Southampton, 7.3

Just like Pelle, you should only bring in Mane if you still have a wildcard to use in MW36. He does have three goals in his last five matches and facing Aston Villa’s defence means there is unlimited upside this week.

Sell: Gylfi Sigurdsson – Midfielder, Swansea City, 7.2

You will be hard pressed to find a bigger Sigurdsson fan than yours truly. Nine of his eleven goals have come in 2016 making him a genuinely elite fantasy asset over that period. Unfortunately, he ends the season against four consecutive top ten defences. Thanks for everything Siggy, you will be missed.

6

Buy: James Milner – Midfielder, Liverpool, 6.6

Speaking of second half warriors, Milner has eight assists in 2016! With five in his last five starts there is no doubting his form and he benefits from five remaining fixtures including a double in MW37. The only concern is that he has been rested a few times lately and Liverpool’s Europa League matches could cause him some healthy scratches.

Sell: Andy Carroll – Forward, West Ham United, 6.3

At time of writing, 21,195 people have brought in a player that will not play in MW35. He has looked terrific the last few weeks, but he cannot earn you points without a match to play!!

5

Buy: Nacho Monreal – Defender, Arsenal, 5.8

There are better options (Bellerin) and cheaper options (Gabriel), but Monreal feels just right. He is as reliable as they  come having started thirty-two of Arsenal’s thirty-four matches and actually has more completed crosses than his wingback counterpart, leaving plenty of upside for assists. I would expect at least two clean sheets from Sunderland, Norwich City and Aston Villa.

Sell: Thibaut Courtois – Chelsea, Goalkeeper, 5.3

His red card makes dropping him easy, but his recent performances had been calling for a drop anyway. Factor in that Chelsea still have to play Tottenham, Liverpool, and Leicester City (all top five attacks) and you have a player you can forget about until next season.

4

Buy: Robert Huth – Defender, Leicester City, 4.9

Swansea have conceded the most set piece goals this season (19). In fact 42% of their conceded goals have come via the set piece route! Who tops Leicester in terms of aerial duels won? Did you guess Huth? Great job! Oh, also Swansea fail to score once every three matches, so a clean sheet could be on the cards as well.

Sell: Ashley Williams – Defender, Swansea, 4.8

All of his remaining fixtures are against top five attacks. Thanks but no thanks.

TEB Fantasy Football League – Top Ten

Stretching the lead at the top is Matthew Freeman but it is still not a comfortable advantage with plenty of points still to play for between now and the end of the season. Big mover this week is Daniel Bright who won the title two seasons ago and looks well place for another challenge. Less that 100 points separate the top ten at the moment.
